La Poesía de La Comida
In the project, we were to choose a spanish country and then choose a popular food dish from that country. Once we chose the dish, we had to do research on it and then write an ode in spanish based on the dish of our choice. After writing the ode we had to actually prepare the dish ourselves and write (in spanish) a list of ingredients and the steps we took to prepare the dish. Finally, we got to present our food and our poem at an exhibition where students and community members could try the food and read the poems.
This project was very fun and I learned a lot about Venezuelan culture and their food. I specifically enjoyed the exhibition in which many people got to hear my poem and try my dish. If I were to change one thing about my final product it would be the tie spent researching my food. The content in my poem shows nothing about the culture of the country that the food came from and may not reflect what the food actually is.

Oda a Las Arepas
By Charlie Malone
Ode to the Arepas
Por Charlie Malone
The arepas feel like a soft cloud
A hand moves across their softness
Their taste is a beautiful sensation
It spreads through the mouth like fire
The arepas are piled like a tower
The arepas look like fresh meals
Their aroma fills the nose
They smell like rainbows
The arepas sizzle on the frying pan
The arepas softly crunch in a mouth
The arepas are appealing and tasty

Los Cuentos Infantiles Project
In the project we started off by researching a specific spanish speaking country, mine being Ecuador. We researched all sorts of different things like food, culture, and clothing. We then read and studied the ergonomics of a regular children's book to get an idea for our own books. We then proceeded to write and revise our children's stories in spanish. Then we illustrated and wrote our hardcover books and for our final exhibition we took a field trip to Needham Elementary and we read our stories to children.
For me, this project was pretty fun and I learned quite a bit about the characteristics about children's books and basic spanish speaking. I specifically enjoyed writing the story, I learned a fair amount of things about the culture of Ecuador and its people, as well as what kinds of activities they enjoy. If I could change one thing about my final product I would spend a lot more time on refinement for that was an element in my book that was not truly present due to the sloppiness of the words and pictures.

Día de los Muertos Project
In the Día de los Muertos project we studied Day of the Dead, decided on a family member that has died, created figurines or art pieces to represent the family member, and wrote poems that represented the family member. The poems spoke to what the family member enjoys, what they did for a living, and their characteristics. We then presented our work in a school wide exhibition.
For my family member I chose my great uncle Jim who died of lung cancer several years ago. I decided to do my project on him because even though he died when I was young and I did not know him very well I wanted to remember him because I wanted to learn more about what my relatives are like. I learned a lot about my heritage and my current family members as well. If I were change one thing about my final product it would be the refinement of my statue. I feel that it is does not quite represent who the person is like due to the lack of refinement.

Calavera (Poem)
