Community Connection
For my community connection I volunteered at a fundraiser outside of Backcountry Experience during a sale. The fundraiser was for the Durango Climbing Team to support them in traveling to the Sport Climbing Divisional Championship in June 2014. During the fundraiser I also helped to raise money to buy new climbing holds for training, repair some climbing walls in the local climbing gym, and general maintenance of the facility.
Crime Scene Investigation Project
In the project each student was assigned a group and then each group was assigned a crime scene. There were three crime scenes with two in the classroom and one outside. My group was assigned the outdoor crime scene. The first step in our process was to photograph and log all the evidence found at the crime scene. Then for each piece of evidence we had to process it in such a way that pertained to the theory that we had formed on what exactly happened during the crime. As the evidence was being processed we had to write evidence logs for each different piece and then analyze it. Once we formulated an idea on what happened we created a poster on everything we had done and what happened at the scene of the crime.
I feel that my level of participation on this project was high. I was able turn all assignments from the project in on time and I collaborated well with the peers in my group. There were a few challenges along the way but we were able to overcome them with perseverance and patience. Overall working with a group was very rewarding and I would love to do it more on future projects.

Dissection Project
In the dissection project were to work as a group dissecting a cat. We had three choices for the animal we could dissect; a pig, a shark, and a cat. Through the process of dissection we had to study all the different systems of the anatomy of the cat. We had to go over the digestive system, the respiratory system, the nervous system, and the reproductive system. Once we went over them we had to memorize each step of each system and present the in a video for our final exam.
Monkey Meal Planning Project
In the monkey meal planning project I created a recipe for a regular meal for chimps. I had to choose my ingredients and measure them out into specific constraints for the chimps. The amount of processed carbs, natural carbs, sugar, processed fat, and natural fat could not be exceeded by a definite portion. I had to re-plan my recipe several times before I got it right and within the constraints for each ingredient.
DNS Project
In the DNS Project we took a field trip to Durango Nature Studies and took a variety of tests. We captured and ID'd frogs, took water quality tests of the river and pond, estimated the number of macro-invertebrates in the pond and the river, then we analyzed the data ad wrote a paper on our data and findings. Also for our data we made tables and charts that told us the diversity and the estimated number of the organisms. Also included in our paper was a discussion and recommendations section which told the DNS employees what they should do to get rid of invasive species such as the American Bullfrog. Also in the discussion and recommendations sections was an overview of what kind of diversity DNS has overall.
